The book
Carnegie and Esenwein published this as a textbook in 1915. It is the work of preparing a talk: purpose, material, arrangement, voice, gesture, the fear itself. Charm is not the method. The method is preparation specific enough that the fear has less room.
A talk that is coming. They want the purpose in a sentence, the examples chosen rather than remembered, and a rehearsal that is practice rather than worry. Later chapters cover occasions, debate, and the speaker's body. The early chapters are the ones a coaching edition should not skip in favour of confidence.
It builds the talk you are actually giving. Purpose, then three pieces of material you have, then the order, then the line you will open with. It pushes back on "I'll just speak from the heart," which is usually the talk not prepared.
The workbook is the outline. A later session can hear the opening and mark what you cut.
It will not be a modern charisma book, and it will not be How to Win Friends, which is a different book from decades later. If there is no talk on the calendar, this edition has nothing to work. Bennett or Marcus will do more for a general week.
